You Will Never Forget To Wear Your Sunscreen After You’ve Watched This Video, We Promise

By  |

We have heard people tell us time and again about the dangers of stepping out in the sun without proper skin protection, but who has the time to do it all the time, right?

That is because we are used to the way we look in visible light, but how does the universe see us? This video will tell you exactly how!

Portrait photographer, Thomas Leveritt sets up a ultraviolet camera and viewing monitor in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park to show people ‘How the sun sees you‘. Ultraviolet rays have the ability to cause hidden spots, splotches, face-consuming freckles and even cancer!

Many of those who viewed themselves on the special camera were surprised to find how damaged their seemingly healthy and flawless skin was. The damage was caused by the infamous UV rays of the sun known to injure the cells and DNA.

Next, Leveritt gave his volunteers some sunscreen to apply in front of the UV filter set-up, and it looked more like smears of black war-paint than a light, white cream.

Slate’s Phil Plait explains, “The camera detects UV from the Sun that’s reflected off people’s skin; the point of sunscreen is to absorb that UV so it doesn’t even reach the skin. Since no UV is reflected from sunscreen, it appears black in the video, even though in visible light it looks white. It looks like people are smearing crude oil on their faces, which is pretty funny.”

Gosh, I am neverrrrrrr stepping out without my sunscreen ever!!
